The Bischling, a forested hill next to the impressive limestone cliffs of the Tennengebirge, may seem inconspicuous at first. But it’s well worth taking the cable car—it leads to a real “gem” with a magnificent high Alpine panorama! From the Gosaukamm and the Bischofsmütze in the east, across the Großglockner in the south, your view stretches all the way to the mighty Hochkönig massif and the Hagengebirge in the west. The Bischling is one of the mostpopular flying mountains for paragliders and hang-gliders throughout the Salzburg region. Its sheltered location often guarantees optimal weather conditions—even when other places are too windy.

From early May to the end of October, and again fromDecember to the end of the season, the cable car takes both beginners and pros directly to the launch site without needing to change lifts. The launch site Bischlinghöhe is at 1,834 m elevation, just a few meters from the top station and right next to the Bischlinghöhe mountain inn. The site is not only easy to reach but also almost always has favorable winds. A flat meadow serves as the launch point, offering ample space and excellent conditions for paragliders and hang-gliders.

Ideal Launch Site for Beginners and Experts

Depending on wind direction, launches can be made facing almost any direction from northwest through south to east. The easiest spot is right next to the Bischlinghöhe alpine guesthouse, where the wind usually cooperates. The relatively flat meadow launch faces southwest–west–northwest and is long enough for hang-gliders, becoming steeper downhill—ideal for ski launches in winter. Bischlinghöhe is therefore the perfect launch site for both experienced pilots and beginners trying paragliding for the first time.

If the wind direction is right, conditions for launching and aborting are optimal. Up to five or six paragliders can set up side-by-side comfortably. About 90 meters north of the IKARUS top station, pilots can launch in northeast, east, or southeast winds from another excellent meadow launch that fits four to five paragliders. In summer, there is a special launch site for three paragliders when winds come from the south.

Anyone can experience flying easily with tandem flights. A tandem voucher makes an unforgettable gift!

If you prefer to take a break between flights or wait for good conditions, the Bischlinghöhe mountain inn offers hearty food, refreshing drinks, and a stunning view.

The landing area is very close to the IKARUS valley station, where ample free parking for cars is available.
